Does anyone have any views as to why this expression is often translated in official Swedish translations as as "enter into force"?

In England laws "come into force" or "take effect". I don't know what they do in America.

It's so-called Nobel Prize English ;-) Jun 5, 2005

Welcome!

träda in i =enter into
kraft=force
träda i kraft = enter into force

That's the way government employees and large corporation sales managers perceive translation.

Enter into force is widely used Jun 6, 2005

"Enter into force" is widely used by a wide range of sources in relation to legislation and treaties which are coming into force. I do not see this as a particular Swedish obsession. You will also find it used in the UK for treaties and conventions.

It's also teutonic, so-called 'international English' Jun 7, 2005

Dear Kristina,

The fact that it is "widely used" is no proof per se. More nations than Sweden mishandle the English language.

UK English is it at rate not.

Mats
