How do I set a å on my keyboard? Thread poster: Louise Mawbey

We've just moved to Sweden and my address has the Swedish å in it. However it is not on my German keyboard and I was wondering whether there is a way to add the å to the keyboard so I don't have to copy and paste from Word every time I write my address. Thanks in advance, Louise

If you often use Word: set shortcuts for special characters | Nov 11, 2005 |
In addition to Mats' splendid list, if you often need the å or Å in Word environment, you can of course also set shortcuts, e.g. Alt+q for å and Alt+w for Å (or whatever you'd like, as long as it isn't occupied by other important characters, like Alt Gr+q = @) However, this only works in Word, so for all other applications you would still need the Alt + number according to the list above. Another option would be the language setting for the keyboard, but in that case you would have to get used to Y>Z and Z>Y because these are switched if you compare a German keyboard with all other types. I once tried to switch my German keyboard into Swedish but had to go back after a couple of hourse short before I went insane BTW, it would be good to know why this hasn't been standardized in the whole world. Thanks to everyone for their help and ideas. I'll have a play about and see which one I like working with best.

I bought an additional Swedish USB-keyboard. Works great.
Use autocorrect option in Word or similar in other apps. | Nov 18, 2005 |
Rather than some of the arcanery above, have Word replace automatically, e.g., ao or aa with å, ae with ä, and oe with ö. Remember to put a space before this letter combination. Use Alt T plus A. You can regret or redo by pressing Alt plus Z should the combination occur by happenstance. Use Alt I plus S to find the appropriate characters. If you use these characters often they will be located in the recently used symbols, or you could simply switch to the Swedish keyboard in Windows. <...
