For a friend of mine, I am searching resources about the learning and teaching of foreign languages in Great Britain, at all levels, from child to teenager to grow-ups. The way of teaching at school : which languages, how, how many hours, when... etc...

If you could send me some information or sites references, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks a lot

I got this just by 'googling' (horrible word) a quick search on "TEFL", that's 'Teaching English as a Foreign Language'. In the UK (Ireland too), there are literally thousands of options so I would do some research on institutions that interest you: some of them are just in it for the money - what your friend needs is a place which will develop in her the right skills to shape her future career.

In Belgium, you could try starting your enquiries at the nearest BRITISH COUNCIL - this has nothing to do with the government or embassies by the way, but it is an organisation which helps to develop and promote the teaching of English abroad. They would be more than willing to give you some good advice I am sure.

Good luck. JP. )

Good starting point Jan 5, 2008

... is the following link: http://www.dfes.gov.uk/languages/

@ John: Language teaching in the UK does include TOEFL courses delivered to immigrants, but it's just a facet of the issue, which to me seems oriented towards other languages rather than English.
