Hi all!
Surely hope this is not a repeat question - I tried to search but my vocab was too vague I think.
My question is : is there a maximum recommended KB size for Trados TM's ??
I do a lot of technical work - I try to divide it per sector but I end up needing bits from here and there so now I have just 1 major tech file - it is 14.000 KB - 14MB
I have had no problems up to now - everything runs fine -

My main TM has reached 272.293 KB with over 800.00 segments.
With SDL Trados 2006 I wasn't able to open TMs over approx. 850.000 segments, but the new SDL Trados 2007 is able to open them.
I do not know if there is any official size limit for TM files.

With SDL 2006 it worked fine until the size of 1.000.000 translation units. After this point I had problems maintaining the translation memory. I was able to open it, work with it. But import does not work in some cases (sometimes it works, sometimes not).
I have not tested with SDL 2007.

Thank you all for answering and have a good day at work!

Make backup copies

Make backup copies of your TMs, by exporting them to the TMX format to have something to fall back upon in the event your TM becomes damaged. A TMX file can be imported again into Workbench or into any other CAT program.
