Do what the monks do, sort of Jun 26, 2013

The monks have been addressing the problem for centuries, being essentially removed from the typical active life, not unlike a home-cloistered freelance translator (or small-office-cloistered, if he owns one). Under the benedictine 'ora et labora', they need to get two things done: the prayer and the work. Regarding the latter, they have centuries of experience managing their outfits in various consecutive economic models and particular good or bad shapes of the economy. In fact, St. Benedict's rule has been of quite some interest to entrepreneurs. Just food for thought.

Or, well, the army. But I think cloistered scribes are closer to what we do and how we live, except perhaps those of us who exercise a lot and interact a lot with others in business.
