Poor quality but quick machine translation of critical matters Aug 5, 2010

I wonder how we can set restrictions to the Google Translate function.

I also use Google Translate functions frequently to get instant meanings in plenty of websites. This is not better than human translation but by mastering the strong and weak points of it, the web search becomes more exciting. I wonder how we can set restrictions to the Google Translate function.

I also use Google Translate functions frequently to get instant meanings in plenty of websites. This is not better than human translation but by mastering the strong and weak points of it, the web search becomes more exciting. Like many machine translation software, If we input simple sentences to individual segments, the translation output is relatively legible. In certain languages, Google Translate also saves our time to key in complicated characters e.g. Japanese Kanji. For long and complicated compound sentences, I split into a number of smaller simple sentences and hit the Translate button. In this way I can read the translated texts with better logical flow.

This can be a hint for machine translation in general.

The BC francophones are justifiably annoyed by the lack of a service to which they are entitled. French is one of the two official languages of Canada but outside of Quebec this concept is often applied only in federal institutions. As the languages of the founding nations of this country, French and English have special and ostensibly equal status.

However, the western provinces joined the confederation somewhat later and, at least in British Columbia, did not have a francophone tradition and population base. British Columbia has much larger Asian minorities. Thus francophones are regarded by many British Columbians as just another minority and not a particularly important one at that. Some are rankled by the expense of "catering" to this group.

You can imagine how these differing "world views" contribute to an ongoing national tension with many political ramifications.
