At a time when language professionals are most needed, such a move is rather uncalled for. Those of us who grew up outside the US know the importance of foreign languages--they open doors to countless opportunities. How do we reconcile the notion that the need for tranlators and interpreters will keep increasing over the next decade (Ref. Labor Department), and slamming the door in the face of potential linguists?
