I think the Geordies could take this much further.

By looking closely at other European nations the Geordies could find many models for creating a much stronger 'national' identity. The first step would be to get 'Geordie' recognised as a language and not just an accent. This could be followed by a demand for bi-lingual schools, a Geordie TV and radio broadcasting authority, and compulsory Geordie language exams for all public jobs. Within a generation, 'Geordieland' could be demanding its own legislative assembly, funding its own language institute, and providing translators for its representatives in Parliament in London.
