It is very difficult to understand as to whom to trust and whom to not, because as a human being you have to trust people to go on in your life...but it also said that where there is trust there is deception..
But as you have rightly stated that there are certain things which are to be taken as guideline in using certain modern day utilities like Email, E banking and many more...
