Love It Apr 27, 2011

As a dedicated (northern border) Mexican speaker who has also lived in Chile and visited there frequently in recent years, I can appreciate the uniqueness of the speech in both places. I might say that despite the vast distance involved, there are also some expressions we share, including some on the list here. It's a challenge to keep up, because so many things also change through the years! I love it all.

¡Rayar la pintura! Apr 28, 2011

Impressive. Over here in Spain we say "pasar por la piedra" (process with the stone, or stone rubbing). Very probably comes from a time when mattresses were rare?

Hilo dental Apr 28, 2011

Thanks Henry, very nice! -- I didn't know any of these, with one exception: the "hilo dental" thingy, which is so funny -- and so true oftentimes But I knew it already from Cuba (not from Chile), often heard it being used.

Not to say anything against Chile -- but Cubans are simply the top specialists when it comes to this topic, period -- and no, I'm not referring to dental care 8~)
