It will most likely develop into over-priced "industry-standard software" in which 90% of the functionality is irrelevant to 90% of users, and which seeks to exclude the majority of translation professionals from the market simply because they have their own ideas on how to manage their projects and workflow.

Don't say I didn't warn you!

One ring to rule them all? Aug 9, 2011

I fully agree with mediamatrix. The whole scheme sounds like a bureaucratic monster, the "one standard" which sets out "to rule them all". And at the end of the day, we have one more project management system to put on the shelf alongside all the others.

I like this quote from RominaZ's summary:

The Language Interoperability Portfolio (Linport) project is a new proposal to define a standard format for representing and packaging translation projects and transmitting them through the entire production chain with full project metadata.

I would nominate this sentence for the "MEANINGLESS VERBIAGE PRIZE".

Not possible... Aug 9, 2011

In the perfect world this would be very welcome!

However, as it is, I will believe it when I see everyone adopting the standard...

For now it reminds me of this:
