The remedy is very simple May 22, 2013

Pay interpreters decently and a lot more will go through the qualification process and be willing to work. As it is, you'd make more as a waiter in a pub.

Well? May 23, 2013

First question: "How much do they get paid?"
Second question: "Is the pay worth the trouble?"

It's not that you're wrong, it's just... niggling details like... May 23, 2013

And if money was no object this wouldn't be an issue, obviously.

In the same way, crime would probably be reduced with a "bobby on the beat" on every street. It's so simple! I'm sure I must have enough money to pay them all adequately down the back of the sofa...

Commenting without knowing the local facts is rather silly May 23, 2013

the current rate for interpreters in the Ontario Court system in $30 per hour + a travel fee that is rather low. It is a rate that would require an interpreter to be called every day to make it a viable living. That not being the case, as with most interpreters, you'd never choose it over other employment. Which as an end result leaves very few interpreters available.

And talking of costs. The cost of postponing cases due to lack of interpreter is so high that it dwarfs whatever added cost decent pay for intepreters would incur.

Oh, I don't know :) May 23, 2013

If I'd never left my ill-informed comment I wouldn't have had a reply that let me learn something.
