I was wondering what the most popular trend is in this regard, whether when translating from Spanish to English, leaving proper names in Spanish and add an English translation next to it, or an outright translation of English. I feel, particularly with regards to tourist guides, that the name as it is known locally should be left intact and a suitable translation added in parenthesis, etc. Is there a more prevalent standard?

for example:

Iglesia de Santa Marina de las Aguas Santas
or
Iglesia de la Caridad

To me, it would seem odd in an English translation that only the following would appear:
The Church of Saint Marina and the Holy Waters
or
The Church of Charity

comentarios?

Leave the name, translate the description Sep 30, 2009

For your examples I would translate as follows:

Santa Marina de las Aguas Santas Church

La Caridad Church
