Hi there,
I've just spent a merry half-hour renaming 200 files by adding an "_E" before translating them into English.
For future reference, does anyone know of a way to rename lots of Word files at once without corrupting them?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
Ian

Renaming files on the fly

Total Commander (or it's previous release called Windows Commander) provide this feature, as well as a bunch of useful others. It is shareware and also handles FTP transfers. U can download it at http://www.ghisler.com/
Good luck Claude

Total Commander or REN

I also recommend Total Commander. This operation would take just a few seconds. TC is a great tool: Explorer replacement, FTP client... I couldn't work without it.
But you could also rename the files using the REN command. It's an old MS-DOS command which is still available in Windows. You can find the syntax in Windows Help (search for "REN").
Example: ren *.txt *.doc
Adding "_e" to the filename is a bit more tricky though. You might have to use the comman... See more

Adding "_e" to the filename is a bit more tricky though. You might have to use the command several times to preserve the extension. ▲ Collapse

...is another nice and free option apart from the obvious solution TotalCommander (which is shareware). It adds a few very useful options to the Windows Explorer right-click menu (and to any other program that can use Windows file dialogs, such as TotalCommander).
