Hi, there was a recent ad asking for someone to adapt US English to Canadian English for software (UI and Help) and I was puzzled. I've never heard that there was such a difference. Do Canadians use a lot of expressions that are different than in the US when it comes to a UI and a Help text?

Terminology probably wouldn't be too much of a problem. But Canadians have their own spelling, similar but not identical to UK spelling (e.g. colour not color).

Thanks, I never knew that Mar 30, 2011

Thanks. I had no idea Canadian English was different than American English! I found this site:

Really, Canadian English is like a big "jumble" concerning the spelling, often varying one way (UK/US) or the other.

Localization or not Mar 30, 2011

I’m surprised that they even asked for a localization. I would say we are pretty much used to American English in software.

Perhaps there are terms that are different between US and Canada. For example, it would be wrong if the UI asked us for a “zip code” or “social security number”. We’re used to it, but it still looks wrong.
