Is translation into Swiss German needed?

A client has a German (de-DE) version of an inventory management system and is asking for a translation into Swiss German. Is this really needed?

There's no translation involved here. Adapting the user interface to the Swiss German spelling and possibly a different choice of words here and there can be done by any competent translator with Swiss German as their target language.

Most software products don't have a specific language version for Swiss German, but it does your client credit that he wants one.

No, it's not. You just have to replace ß by ss and maybe change some other words, but not much. Just have a look for a German proofreader coming from Switzerland to do the few changes which will need to be done.
