I am trying to figure out how best to include the accent symbol ar the line above the n in the Spanish text I am writing.. I ty to do it but all I get afterwards are huge spaces between the letters and cant get it to look normal.. is there a way to press certain keys that will do it automatically without resorting to "spell-check" .. I will much appreciate any help with this. it's really taking me forever to go back and edit all the tildes after I finish translating..

A possibility Feb 25, 2005

Maybe you could solve the problem changing the language of the configuration of your keyboard. I have it in spanish and then I get all the symbols and letters for both languages.
Maybe someone knows better.

there's different ways Feb 25, 2005

You can do certain shortcuts, like macros that you can preset to make things easier. If you don't know how to do this in your word processor, use the alt key. Here's some of them:

alt164 ñ
alt165 Ñ
alt160 á
alt130 é
alt161 í
alt162 ó
alt163 ú
alt144 É
alt168 ¿
alt173 ¡
alt129 ü

Hello,

Rather than re-type the information, I thought I would provide you with a link on how to create accents using the ALT + combinations. This was posted a while back.

Here is the link:

I hope this helps!

Chek this:

But don't use the numbers in the upper part of the keyboard, but those on the right side.

On Linux switching between a Spanish and English keyboard could hardly be easier. However there is a tool for both Word and OpenOffice on Linux which might be found useful and which I've not found searching the forums, Thessalonica:

www.thessalonica.org.ru/en/
www.thessalonica.org.ru/es/index.html
www.thessalonica.org.ru/ru/index.html

Enabled it has the following functions:

To get an accented letter, just type after a vowel one of the following accent keys:

Key Accent
['] acute
[`] grave
[^] circumflex
[~] tilde
["] dieresis
[/] stroke

... using the [=] key to replace a character or sequence of characters with another character ...

Before pressing [=] After pressing [=]
AE Æ
Ae Æ
ae æ
AO Å
Ao Å
ao å
C, Ç
c, ç
DH Ð
Dh Ð
dh ð
OE Œ
ss ß
TH Þ
th þ

It can also be used for inputting polytonic Greek.

Another possibility (I currently use)

ñ: + + , then press (say + , then press )
for accents: + , then press or etc
ü: + , then press

Sorry again, I hope this time will be OK Feb 25, 2005

Another possibility (I currently use)

ñ: [ ctrl ] + [ shift ] + [ ` ], then press [ n ]
(say [ ctrl ] + [ ~ ] , then press [ n ])

for accents on vowel: [ ctrl ] + [ ’ ], the press [ vowel ]

ü: [ ctrl ] + [ : ], the press [ u ]

This way is no more necessary to change the language of the configuration of your keyboard.
