I'm familiar with "copyrighting," and I'm careful not to confuse it with "copywriting," which brings me to the question stated above.
My "Reader's Digest Great Encyclopedic Dictionary" agrees with the online definition I found,

Could you ask this again? Perhaps I need another cuppa coffee but I don't understand. Copyrighting pertains to obtaining a copyright on material; copywriting is the production of advertising texts.

Although translating advertising texts is often 70% copywriting and 30% translation, "copywriting" doesn't mean translating advertising texts - it means writing them, often from scratch.
I've done it, and it's more perspiration than inspiration ...

Marketing is not copywriting. Writing copy for marketing and advertising is a job for a writer.
Marketing is much more than writing. Writing the documents, collateral and copy. It involves doing much more than writing.

Like Ian, I used to be a copywriter. Of course this looks good on a translator's CV. The true skill of a copywriter is producing texts that work well for a certain audience. The same goes for translators.
Marketing is a science and advertising consultants are professionals who sell the products of this science. In a perfect world copywriters are briefed by the marketing professionals, just like translators should be.
Like translators, freelance copywriters are often one-man bands. Customers who find agencies too expensive will approach a freelance copywriter with very little marketing information and will hope the best of it. That's how freelance copywriters acquire some marketing skills, whilst perspiring.
Translators and copywriters share a lot of skills, but they're not marketing specialists per se.

As some posters expressed writing copy and formulating a marketing campaign are two different things. I have worked in both positions. I found that the big difference between the translator who translates and the translator who can also copywrite is the money.
You can command a higher fee if you are translating/copywrite material. They are not paying for the translation but for the experience and knowledge that you have in the advertising or marketing arena. It completely cha...
