Hi,

Obviously Wordfast is alot cheaper than Trados but is it really worth the added expense of buying Trados or is Wordfast just as good?

Thanks,

Mark and Fan

You can evaluate both for free Apr 29, 2006

and decide yourself, which is better suited to your needs. There are jobs that can be done exclusively with Trados. I use both.

Heinrich

That article is quite old, though May 1, 2006

That article is quite old, though. It still mentions Wordfast as being "free". WF 3.x was free. We're already up to WF 5.x.

Since WF 3.x, there were some changes to the CAT industry, most important to the OP's question being the use of Trados Tag Editor formats, which are not supported by Wordfast (well, not directly).

Trados evaluation May 1, 2006

I'm currently starting out with the trial version of Wordfast but would interested in trying a free download of Trados as well (as mentioned by Heinrich)... it's just that I can't find one! Could someone post the link please?

for trial/demo version of sdl trados, you can find it at download section of trados freelancer's website, i.e. http://www.translationzone.com/download.asp?menuItem=12

be careful, trados is now bloated. the download is very huge at 250+mb.

Comparing Wordfast and Trados Jul 18, 2006

It may also be a good idea to compare what applications each software supports. Wordfast make it very clear that it attaches itself only to MS Word. Trados is now extending support to other office suite applications, like Star Office and Openoffice (open source version of Star).

What happens is that trados is now "bundled" with SDLX, which is a good thing for me, as I prefer working with this one, and as some clients require that I use trados... but I think I will manage to "cheat" and use SDLX in stealth... (that point was discussed earlier...)
