At the fine new site for translators called Translators Café, Nathalie Girard is moderating a forum entitled Computer Health and Your Work. She describes the intent of the forum thus: “Your good health is especially important when you work as a freelance translator - Find some health tips, exercises, ask questions, share stories... and improve your health!”

I’d highly recommend it to anyone concerned about the effects that long hours of working at the computer can have on a person and who plans on staying in the translation business for many more years to come. Thanks for the helpful forum, Nathalie!

How about one here? Jan 28, 2003

That wouldn\'t be a bad forum to have on ProZ. It\'s related to our work (especially ergonomics).

Is it possible to create a Health forum?

FWIW,

Erika

A good overview Jan 28, 2003

of health issues specific for translators (namely the RSI syndrome) you will find at Carla Zwanenberg\'s site: http://www.zwanenberg-translations.com/takecare.html

Worth reading and keeping in mind!

I had first made the suggestion to Proz... Jan 28, 2003

Hi Erika,

I had made the suggestion to Proz (in a forum) when we were discussing different ideas about a chat section or special moderated discussions etc. See my post dated Nov. 22 2002 on this thread:

http://www.proz.com/index.php3?sp=bb/viewtopic&mode=viewtopic&topic_id=6516&forum_id=23&start=15

My idea was ignored at the time...

So I recently proposed it to the Translators Café website and the site owner graciously accepted to create the forum for me.

I would happily moderate a similar forum here, if members would like this service on Proz...

I guess it\'s up to Henry at this stage.

Regards,

Nathalie (Cert. Group Fitness Instructor)

I would love ... Jan 28, 2003

to have a similar forum here at Proz. Please do not give up on us Nathalie, maybe more of us will hear this time. I have not noticed your suggestion your first time, so hopefully, like me, many others will notice this now. Thank you again.

Making suggestions Jan 28, 2003

Hi Nathalie,

You say your idea was ignored. I went to your link to the Translators Coop discussion on chat groups where you mentioned the idea of a chat group for health issues. I just checked and found out we have 45 forums at ProZ with hundreds of new messages and threads added every day. Why not try the \"ProZ.com Suggestions\" forum and start a discussion on that specific topic there? That’s where many of the site improvements were born over the years. From what I know, Henry doesn’t typically make decisions on whether to add a forum by himself but also on the basis of the recommendations from a lot of site members who have the benefit of being able to read all those new postings. Personally, I think a new forum on health would be a great idea.

All the best, Kim

Great suggestion. I\'ve posted it to the Proz Suggestions forum...

Please feel free to come and continue the discussion over there (and let your wishes be known!):

Spiros,

This article is very interesting and very thorough...

Since you are the editor of this great website, could you come share this link (and information) on the TC forums?

http://www.translatorscafe.com/Cafe/MegaBBS/category-view.asp?showall=true

I think that this article could benefit many translators.

I hope to see you there

Regards,

Nathalie
