Thank you, very interesting! Apr 9, 2003

There was an article in the \"ITI Bulletin\" on this subject some years ago, but this one is a lot more detailed.

You remind me of an interview I heard with the creator of \"The Clangers\", a British TV serial originally dating from the 1960s & 70s in which the heroes are pink knitted mouse-like creatures inhabiting a world like (and unlike) our own moon (before those astronauts went and ruined our imagination of what it might be like, anyway).

Clangers eloquently communicate their numerous and vivid adventures, feelings, thoughts and conversations entirely by whistles, and the creator said he was asked to do a translation (adaptation?) for the German market, and he did, but afterwards the German receivers said it was very nice, but they preferred the whistles in the English original, which they said they understood perfectly ......

(apologies to Astro-zoological specialists present if my memory of this is imperfect...and the creator might have been Eric Postgate).
