I was wondering if there is any degree of unanimity out there regarding what is the best German-English electronic/CD-rom dictionary.
Any suggestions/recommendations would be most welcome.

Many thanks,

Depends on the topic Jan 14, 2009

It depends on the topic you are translating.

For general purposes, I am very happy with my olde Oxford-Hachette Superlex 1.1. 1996
For specific technical or legal dictionaries, I bought several specialized Langenscheidt dictionaries within the Office-Bibliothek 4.10 (formerly Pc-Bibliothek) program. These specialized dictionaries, and the chance to browse through several possible meanings make Office-Bibliothek a very professional tool.

Succes met je enkwete.

I posted a detailed answer about my preferences, including links to online shops. To summarise my opinion, I agree with Oscar and highly recommend Langenscheidt e-Wörterbuch (Office-Bibliothek). I use it with about 12 dictionaries for all kinds of specialist fields, including Collins and various Duden products (Synonyme, Universalwörterbuch, Oxford D/E), and all on one interface. But if you need the dictionary for your private use and not for professional translation, I would suggest e.g. (about 70 euro).
