Dear all,
My name is Isabel Durán, a researcher at the University of Málaga (Spain).
Nowadays, my research group is involved in a project about Translation
Memories, their quality, and translators’ opinions about them.
In order to know the problems of these tools, we also need the comments of
professionals that are working with them all the time. That's why we need
your help.
My group would be very pleased if you could tell us what you think about
the current Translation Memories, your unsatisfied necessities,
enhancements you would like to find, problems you have, information you
need, and so on. That is, give us as much feedback as you can to know how
current TM should be improved.
(Please, also provide the name of the TM you are talking about)
Thanks in advance!

Hi Isabel
Do you mean computer-assisted translation (CAT) softwares? A translation memory is created by a CAT tool, and is stored as source/target segments, and each translation memory is only as good as the translator who feeds it.

How do TM / CAT tool sellers select their buyers ? The only selection is the payment for the CAT tool.
I mean, anyone can buy a CAT tool and start creating TM memories. Therefore, we may conclude we can have TM-s of various sorts, for example : not so bad, good, very good, excellent, outstanding. I can't really give a generic answer. | | | me and my TM | Mar 19, 2009 |
Hello,
I am also a multiple TM owner. But maybe she wants the standard discussion about Trados or not?

Dear all,
thanks for your interest in this topic.
I should have said CAT tools, instead of TM, you're all right. And I don't want to limit just to Trados, but to talk about all the CAT tools you may use (SDL Trados, Across, Transit, Déjà vu, etc.)
I would be very pleased if you can tell me any problem, fault, defect you may find in your CAT tool. For example, regarding the segmentation, the data recovery, the similarity, terminology management, etc. Anything you would have ever thought: "this should be improved".
I hope this time I had explained better!
Thanks again!
Regards,
Isabel
