Does anyone have any experience with either the download version or the online version available via the Kluwer.shop? I used to have a paper copy but lost it somewhere along the way, and was wondering whether to spend the € 159,50, or simply continue using the Google Books scanned version.

Here is an online demo: http://lexicon.wknl.com/default.asp?demoMode=1
Info: http://www.gatewayvertalingen.nl/Juridisch-Economisch_Lexicon_en.html

Also, here is an online Google-scanned version: http://books.google.com/books?id=P3W8HNhrlC8C&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_summary_r&cad=0#PPA20,M1 (which is actually quite useful!)

Any comments or suggestions would be welcome. This was/is a VERY good book for Dutch to English translators.

I also used the version on Google for some time, but after a while it blocks further access to the book so you can't see it any more. It did show me that it contains many very useful terms and I am thinking of buying it in the future.

one month free Apr 28, 2009

Michael,

you can get free access to the online version for one month via the Kluwer shop. That way you can see whether you want to buy it or not. This is much better than the paper version because it is updated regularly. I believe if you buy the download version that you also have access to the online version but you'd have to check that.

Want to share cost? Aug 28, 2009

Hi there Michael. You are probably beyond this decision, but why not ask if you want to share the cost of this online subscription to JURLEX? Possible? I do my share of DUT>ENG translations, and it looks pretty useful.

BTW, are you planning to attend ATA in NY in October?

Dutch_English - Jurlex - worth it -yes Aug 28, 2009

I have been using Jurlex since 2004 and I have updated twice - Why buy from Kluwer anyway?

http://www.gatewayvertalingen.nl/Juridisch-Lexicon.html

I also use FEL online (I have the EN-NL and NL-EN modules) - so it depends really if you're more a financial or more of a legal translator.
http://www.felonline.nl/

If you have none of those, go for it. If you translate legal texts there are several other dictionaries that are a must-have.
(Garner's Black's Dict of Law to start with).

TOPIC STARTER
Thanks Peter! Aug 28, 2009

I am presently in the process of moving from Galicia to a small town along the coast of Catalunya, (Barcelona) so will be slightly lacking in funds for the time being, but when I get there and once am all settled, yes, sharing would seem like a good idea to me too!
I was actually already planning to share a subscription with my mother (also a translator), and so a third party would definitely make sense.
I just read on the website that:

'Het tarief voor de download-editie is gebaseerd op het aantal werkplekken. Voor één gebruiker schaft u het Juridisch-Economisch Lexicon aan voor EUR 195,-. Voor iedere extra gebruiker binnen dezelfde organisatie kost de licentie EUR 45,-. Deze prijzen zijn exclusief btw.'

...so, depending on their definition of 'iedere extra gebruiker binnen dezelfde organisatie,'
(and, assuming 195 + 45 + 45 ÷ 3 = € 95) ...

Concerning the ATA in NY in October, I am sad to say no, I won't be attending. (I actually haven't even set foot on US soil since 1984!)
I might make it to the upcoming Conference in Barcelona however (http://www.proz.com/forum/2009_regional_conference_spain/130492-barcelona_conference_2009_general_discussion.html).
