Hi everyone,

I am about to dive into the world of CAT. I have downloaded the free trial version of WordFast Classic and have played around with it for a bit. I am very interested in hearing what CAT software you are using and if you are satisfied with it. I hope it will help me in selecting which software I want to start using. So much is available and I don't know where to start...

I hope you can help me out by sharing your experiences. I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Regards,

Marlies

Try searching in the forums Apr 13, 2010

Hi!

This topic has been discussed countless times before, might I suggest you do a little research in the forums to get a broad picture of people's changing viewpoints, as the various tools evolve...

Good luck!

It depends on the kind of work you do Apr 13, 2010

and on your ability to get along with this kind of software. Do you work mainly with Word files? Or do you do annual updates on 200-page long manuals?

Sometimes people spend a lot of money and have a frustrating experience, whereas with more intuitive software, such as MetaTexis, they would have had more than enough for their needs.

I strongly recommend trying the free/trial/demo version of a couple of tools before purchasing any of them.

Good luck!

I've heard that the translatorstraining site is very useful for comparing CAT tools

although I haven't used it myself.

Yahoo groups might interest you Apr 16, 2010

Hello,
I was thinking of purchasing MemoQ because I heard so many good things about it (I used wordfast once upon a time). But before purchasing, I read the posts of users (you can go to yahoo groups and type "memoQ" or "wordfast" or "trados". By reading the problems and praises of the CAT tool, I get a fairly good idea of whether it will suit my needs.

Honestly, I'm not so sold on any CAT tool, but it's a necessity for large volume translation work.

The users of MemoQ seem to be happy with its features and they are especially impressed with the customer service assistance they receive from the Memo Q developers.
