Where can I find the meaning of an arabic last name?

Hello,

I've been asked to find the meaning of the Algerian last name "Silem", can anybody help?

Selim (Salim), Salem or Salam Apr 27, 2010

Hi Elodie,

Arabic names are often transliterated inaccurately, so Silem could really be Salim (usually pronounced Selim), Salem or Salam, all of which derive from the same root.

Salim and Salim both mean "safe", "unharmed", while Salam means "peace".

They probably mean "Salim"...
