Hi all,

I am translating a huge volume of news reports from 2002 and 2003 about the Mediterranean area. The reports come, of course, from many countries and have been translated from various langauges into Spanish. The client wants UK spelling and I am looking for an online journalistic style guide to help me keep the caps straight, etc. The last time I did this type of project I used The Economist style guide but I´m having difficulty getting the new link to open and I´m having doubts about The Guardian. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks in advance,
Madeline, an American in need of guidance.

The Economist seems to work for me Feb 4, 2004

Hi Madeline,

I use the Economist style guide for UK English. I just checked and it seems to be working. I'll have a think about and get back to you with some more suggestions.

Thanks, Abigail. You´re right--the Economist is working! Maybe I jumped the gun and it was my server that was having problems earlier (I kept getting strange error messages).

Cheers, Madeline.

Another link Feb 4, 2004

Hi Madeline,

I was looking for the selfsame thing the other day and came across these:

http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/web/guides/editorial.cfm

Brief but it looks fairly useful.

http://www.mhra.org.uk/Publications/Books/StyleGuide/StyleGuideV1.pdf

Much more detailed.

The Times also has one but it is concerned more with terminology than punctuation etc.

Be careful with The Guardian by the way, a good paper but it's not called The Grauniad for nothing.

Good luck

James
