(I hope this is the right place for this post, and that the moderators will move it if necessary!)
I'm looking for the English original of an article by American second world war correspondent Ernie Pyle written in France at the time of Cherbourg's liberation, late June (between 27th-30th I think)1944.
In it (according to the French translation I have) he mentions he was with Charles Wertenbaker and Bob Capa and describes a situation where the GIs were already inside the city.

I've found several Pyle columns on the web but not this one. Can anyone help? TIA.

You may have seen this site Mar 10, 2004

http://www.private-art.com/

It is a collection of a US GI's letters from WWII. The name is a play on his name and rank. One section of the memorabilia at the site includes some Pyle articles.

I found it by chance at another site with a large collection of letters and essays on letter writing, which looks quite interesting.

Thank you Terry Mar 10, 2004

I'd stopped expecting any replies!
Yes, I had come across the Private Art website - but not the other one you give the link to (thanks)- unfortunately it doesn't contain the "right" article.
I think I may have to buy/borrow/beg myself an Ernie Pyle collection, as I'm quite interested now in what else he wrote, and hope the column I need is in there.
This is what I love about "general" translating (in this case a series of articles on D-day and surrounding events): getting into
