I was interested in buying a very large and very good Italian>English technical dictionary. I was wondering if someone could make a recommendation. Of course, it isn't hard to find dictionaries on Amazon or elsewhere. It's just you don't want to spend a lot of money to find out the dictionary you just bought isn't all that helpful. This is particularly the case as technical dictionaries seem to be much more expensive than other dictionaries.

I was particularly wondering whether anyone had an opinion on the large Zanichelli technical dictionary which seemed promising.

Grazie.

As Narasimhan, I use the Marolli, which I would say is essential.

Marolli, Zanichelli and Picchi Mar 15, 2004

Get all three of them as CD-ROMs only (I'm sure that both Marolli and Picchi are available separate from the paper version, not so sure about the Zanichelli).
Marolli is a good (though in many cases dated) general technical dictionary, strong on industrial and mechanical things, no so much on more modern subjects (e.g., computing).
Zanichelli is an excellent scientific dictionary, especially good because of its definitions (which are either very skimpy or absent in Marolli).
Picchi is a modern general (non technical) dictionary, particularly stong on financial matters. You can see for yourself how suitable it is for your needs by goign to the following link:

www.hoepli.it

where it is freely available (at least for the moment: just click on the banner "Grande Dizionario di Inglese".

Before spending money, have you tried EU Multiple dictionary? It is worth trial.
