Hi

I have searched the glosspost here, but I'm not yet satisfied. I'm looking for more free EnglishFrench mega glossaries.

I very often use the Collins 2009 dictionary and the Canadian Termium website. That's not enough, because if the Termium is down for maintenance, it can slow me down. In any translation, there will be some difficult terms.

Do you know other free websites and free resources that are as rich as Termium? Where you can type the keyword and you get the chemistry translation+definition, the IT translation+definition etc for the same expression? Termium is very impressive for this.

Thanks,

Avinash.

www.linguee.com Apr 4, 2011

Pas exactement un dictionnaire mais un corpus d'expressions dans les 2 langues, qui permet de vérifier le contexte.
Surtout intéressant pour l'économie, le juridique et l'international car il s'alimente beaucoup dans les textes multilingues de l'UE.

IATE Apr 4, 2011

The European Union's terminology database for translators is IATE: http://iate.europa.eu. The reliability of the terms in IATE varies: stick with the ones that are rated 3 or 4 stars (in terms of how thoroughly they were researched).

Like Canada's Termium and Québec's Grand Dictionnaire, IATE gives different translations for the same term for different disciplines.

Another good resource is the Catalan TermCAT database, which covers French and English in addition to Spanish and Catalan. The interface, however, is only available in Catalan: http://termcat.cat/.

Thanks Apr 5, 2011

I tested all links with the same keywords to compare. I'll keep testing them over time. Thank you!

For Termcat, I couldn't get other results than Catalan (Spanish?) for now.

PS : If you change the keyword language in the My Termium, you can also search for French terms, superb!

The search results list only the Catalan terms, but if you click on them you'll see the full entry, with Catalan, English, French and Spanish terms. (Not all entries include all four languages.)
