I urgently need a ranks dictionary for a subtitling job, but I have no clue where to find it, and I have found nothing in the GlossPost section here, so anyone?

Although "sergeant" generally outranks "patrolman", the requirements among the various police departments in the US differ from each other. If you know which police department is under discussion, their web site might provide some guidance.
