Once in a while I work off a paper copy and the client asks to 'match' the formatting, which pretty much means identify the font used.

This site asks you a ton of questions about various features of the font you're looking at, and singles it out.

It couldn't identify Times New Roman. I guess the database of fonts are too small, but in theory it is a great tool. Perhaps they should get volunteers to help catalogue fonts. Still, not bad at all.

I think they only list commercial fonts Apr 13, 2004

I wasn't able to identify common fonts like Lucida or Courier either.

I guess they have to support themselves somehow. Although listing a few free fonts wouldn't have hurt business.
