Hello,

I've long kept a list of recurring terms used in Italian that can be sticky to translate into English, that I call "Peskies".

http://www.miriamhurley.com/pesky.html

I've now started an open, editable Google Doc

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkhynDHf-ncGdHRHbzlSb0NpUEJBOHZwenQ0eGU0V3c#gid=0

for those who would like to contribute their ideas.

Thanks!

Great resource Mar 26, 2013

Hi Miriam

I've been using your Miriam's and Giles's for years. It was an eye-opener when I was a new translator (quite a long time ago now).

I take it you're now going it alone; I hope it wasn't an acrimonious divorce!

Will try to remember to add any ideas that come to me.

Russell

Thank you Miriam! Mar 26, 2013

You're a saint in my book! I too was wowed by your Miriams and Giles many years ago and continue to turn to them in a pickle. I hope to contribute now as well.

Thanks again!

Amy

No, Russell, it was just a rebranding from the original MIRIAMs for Moderately Irritating Recurring Idioms And Mannerisms with their solutions GILES (Greatly Irritating Language Error Solutions). I felt shy about having them named after me and wanted it to be clearer as a heading on my web site. But the excellent Giles Watson (www.watson.it) was one of the leading original contributors to the solutions.

Giles? Who he? Mar 26, 2013

Hi Russell and Miriam,

It's lovely to see Miriam's hard work - I have had nothing to do with this for some time so the credit is all Miriam's - made more widely available.

It would be great if people were to continue to contribute. The already very promising site could turn into a seriously useful resource for everyone.

Best,

Giles
