Dear colleagues

we are looking for frequently used sites by translators in
countries like Croatia, Denmark, Great Britain, France, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Slovenia

Some we use and know are www.Woordenlijst.org
Wordreference, Oxford Dictionaries, Thesaurus and The Guardian Education

Are there any more ?

Kind regards

Luc

I do not use them often for Maltese- I sometimes use Google translate but often reputed dictionaries-Aquilina, Oxford for checking exact meaning of a word, then I use Spellchecker to check spelling is correct. Hope this helps as it is what i use

Authoritative Danish sites Apr 29, 2013

Two very good dictionaries that translators subscribe to are

http://ordbog.gyldendal.dk/

and

http://www.ordbogen.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordbogen.com

You can use them to a (very) limited extent free - you can look up two words a day on each website.

Subscribers can put together a selection of general and specialist dictionaries - medical, technical, legal, different language pairs and so on, to suit their needs.

Between them they provide a very wide range of excellent general and highly specialised dictionaries for all purposes.

I don't know how much translators use the next two, which are monolingual - it probably varies a lot. I translate into English, but I am very fond of them when I have time to browse round in them and study my source language:

http://ordnet.dk/ddo/forside
for modern Danish

and
http://ordnet.dk/ods_en?set_language=en
- the Danish version - for more 'vintage' words. Both are free.

For quick reference I have a CD of Politikens Nudansk Ordbog installed on my computer, but that is also included in the selection at Ordbogen.com

Wikipedia is another very useful resource.

I suggest

http://www.omnilexica.com/

It's very useful for translators, because in many cases it shows photos, videos, examples and so on.
