Weeding out some of the e-mails I received recently... Not everything is weed, apparently:

Here are a few good tips received from Competia.

One of the luxuries that the web provides is the ability to visit and read online newspapers from around the world. We all have our collection of bookmarks to useful newspapers that caters to our professional and personal interests. To make life easier for ourselves, there are a handful of tools that performs meta-searches on the web and a number of databases that will retrieve the most relevant articles based on the entered keywords. Here are four free tools on the web to assist you in gathering news.

RocketNews – RocketNews is one of the most impressive tools on the web. The tool supplies users with the power to perform searches and pulls up-to-date content from 5000 websites. Once you have typed in your keywords, RocketNews will provide relevant hits from the past five days. If you have not tried this tool yet, try it now. You

will be amazed how powerful it is. RocketNews is available at

http://www.rocketnews.com

Moreover - Moreover is the king of news sites. Depending upon your needs, there are two ways of gathering news from Moreover. By

entering your keyword on the index page, the tool will provide you with the current headlines linked to the full stories. If you are seeking industry specific news, you can make use of the subject directory located on the lefthand side of the second page once you have entered your keyword. Once you have found an article that you deem important, be sure to print it or bookmark the page. Moreover does not archive the headlines that are updated constantly.

PS. Test out the email

function with a colleague or a friend.

Google News – Google News gives you access to the top stories from around the world. On the index page, Google presents headlines

from news categories that you are accustomed to in your local and national newspapers. This page is updated constantly so a headline that appeared in the morning might not be available in the afternoon. If you find yourself in this situation, turn to the

search box. The result page will provide you with the headlines from the past week and the link to the entire article. Google News will indicate when the headline has been added to the database.

Northern Light Current News Search - To obtain press releases issued by companies, Competia recommends using the Northern Light Current News Search. After you have entered your keyword, you have an option to receive the results from the last two hours, the present day, or the past two weeks. To have access to the documents beyond the two week deadline, you will be asked to pay to view the information. The tool pulls current news from over 117 sources from 62 newswires and

online publications, including AP Online, UPI, and PR Newswire, as well as numerous international sources.

Northern Light Current News Search is available at

Enjoy your weekends,

Evert
