I am a freelance translator just starting out, and I currently have a job translating documents from French>English for an engineering firm. The documents are all very technical, and I looking for resources to help me. A lot of the vocab has to do with equipment. Any suggestions for resources would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Chelsea

I use Google images to have a look at the item, when I do not know it, which happens very frequently. Then I know what we are talking about.
Or I write "the name of the item" +jpg and find a picture of it...
I look for parallel texts on the subject matter, through a search that involves pairs of words belonging to the languages I am working with.
Catalogues are a very useful resource. Zoll/Customs/Aduanas/ files have a lot of useful terminology ▲ Collapse

Sometimes what I do, if I'm looking for a device or part of a device, is Google the ST term and find a website that's selling or renting that object. I make a note of the brand name and the manufacturer # for the product, then I Google that (specifying English-only websites) to find an English-language site selling the same product, and see how they describe it.
