Esteemed colleagues,

I have made a gnu/linux system that runs from a cdrom in your cd drive,
without altering your current system, that will enable you to try out the FOSS
(free open source software) tools that I use every day in my business, including:
openoffice.org - a full office suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.
Omega T - a free/open source CAT tool
and other tools that I use.

You can download this cd, freely, and try it out, and, if you like it,
you can even install it to your hard drive.
It's even possible to install it along side of MSWindows ® and have both.

I have been using Linux and FOSS for about 8 years.
The stability and security of Linux augments my productivity, since
I have not had a crash, virus, malware or spyware problem, etc., for 8 years.
Heck, I haven't even had to reboot...
And, you can't beat the price, since all of this software is free.
Using FOSS and Linux definitely helps keep my overhead down.

Anni

PS. The torrent doesn't work. I get
Exception Not_found for network FileTP
Unable to match URL
/home/user/LinguaFluxOS-LiveCD-0.2-386.iso.torrent

error.

Hmmmm.....
Did you try the torrent from linux tracker?
I don't know much about how torrents work, and just sent
these up, since, at the moment, I haven't found a place to host
the 412mb .iso file for regular ftp or http download.
Maybe it needs more time to seed properly, or something.
I only posted it a couple of hours ago.

Incidentally, I use Kubuntu for my main production machine.
I used to use Fedora. What do you use?
I did this with PCFluxboxOS due to a recommendation from another colleague,
and PCLOS made it trivial to generate a LiveCD from my system.
It was quite easy...I mean, I'm a former English teacher, and now a translator,
and no computer engineer, but I made the CD and it works.
I wish you could DL the torrent and try it, because I am eager for feedback from
other users.
I am now in the process of putting together a more full-featured system,
that will require a DVD.

Thanks for your input.

Tony

That's weird...
What software are you using for torrents?
When I click on the link gnome-btdownload grabs it and it works.
Alternatively, I can get it with ktorrent, too.

How about Wlan? Dec 23, 2007

I once tried Ubuntu on my labtop, but the inbuilt Wlan didn't work on it. Any improvements in this respect?
Regards
Heinrich

I don´ t know.
I have a wireless router, but, I connect to it with cat5 ethernet cables, anyway, so, I've
never had to deal with the whole wireless thing here.
I know there are plenty of folks using ubuntu in wireless environments, though.
I just have no personal experience with it.
Good luck with that!

I tried both. The same result each time.

I use MLDonkey through browser on PClinuxOS distro.

Maybe it's just me. I'll try later, check log file and maybe will know why it doesn't work for me.

Error Dec 23, 2007

Hello Tony,

I've tried both download sites, and it returns an error message "got bad file info. Bad torrent file - announce is invalid".

I am on Ubuntu Dapper, and when clicking on the torrent it opens directly in gnome-btdownload.

Sonja

I just checked and get the same thing...
This is my first attempt at making a torrent, so, I must have done something wrong...
I did get it uploaded to bigupload.com and have added a link to there, for http download.
They're kind of a slow mirror, but, then, it's a free service.
But that's an option.

torrents and downloads Dec 23, 2007

The problems with the torrents may be because I announced them after only just beginning
to seed them. I started seeding them at about 11pm EST (NYC time) o9n 12/22, so, I suspect
that soon they will be valid.
Also, I have added a couple of http download options from the project page, using free
file hosting services.
These all include only the LiveCD version.
I have since built a DVD version (1.1gb), that has more tools and goodies on it.
I hope to have a legitmate mirror soon. In the meantime, however, one can download
them from the free services (albeit, slowly) and try it out.
I have added a Yahoo! group and a wiki, too, so, if any of you would like to participate in the
project, please do sign up and join in. Your participation is most welcome and would
be deeply appreciated.
I hope to soon have the project on sourceforge, too.

Thanks
tony

new download option Dec 24, 2007

I just uploaded the LiveCD .iso to megaupload.com and paid for 10gb of transfer,
which means the first 24 people to download the file will have a good transfer rate.
(likely I will buy more bandwidth when that runs out).
Here is the download link:
