I’m a novice at Translating and I would like to get some hints on translation tools. Since Eurodicautom doesn’t exist, I’m used to work with “IATE” but it is not that accurate. I’ m wondering about other tools for technical translation issues;

All of the terms in the IATE database are rated in terms of their reliability (i.e., how carefully they have been researched). Terms that are rated 3 or 4 stars (out of 4), are usually reliable. But of course, it's helpful to have technical dictionaries to double-check things.

I'm not aware of any other online technical dictionary that covers as wide a range of topics as IATE, but there are excellent online resources for specific fields (medicine, environment, etc.) Are there specific fields you're looking for?

You can try Termium at http://www.termiumplus.gc.ca/site/accueil_home_s.html

Also there is MedTrad.

I use IATE, but I agree that it is good practice to double check with a dictionary or parallel texts.

Cheers,

Diana
