I have found conflicting sources concerning the typed production of Vietnamese diacritics. Is it most common/standard for native Vietnamese typists to use a Vietnamese keyboard like the following:
Or, is it more common to use a standard QWERTY keyboard with Vietnamese configuration such as VNI (i.e. where the the accents ̀ ́ ̉ ̃ ̣ are mapped onto the keys 12345, respectively) ?

The most widely used Vietnamese input software is Unikey (www.unikey.org) it is free, lightweight and powerful. There are some other softwares but less popular (vietkey, winvnkey,...)
For Vietnamese there are 3 preferable input method: Telex (most popular), VNI (2nd), VIQR (3rd). The one you mentioned is created by Microsoft, which is quite similar to VNI method, is not as popular as the former 3. ... See more
