HTML problem - why?

On trying to post onto my blog, I got the following message:

Your HTML cannot be accepted: Closing tag has no matching opening tag: SPAN

What is happening?

This is very strange as I just copied the Word file plus a picture onto my blog, and when I tried to post this happened.

Why?
