Hi all,
I'm using Windows XP Pro and Zone Alarm Security Suite

Lately I've had trouble with clients sending me Zip Archive files (.zm9) which my computer refuses to open due to securtiy issues. Anyone else having this problem? Are these files safe?
Many thanks,

Jennifer

Renamed file extension Oct 3, 2006

Zone Alarm Mailsafe renames the extension "ZIP" to "ZM9".

If I understand correctly, save the file to your computer, rename the extension to ZIP and then you should be able to open (unzip) the file.

Are these files safe?

Zip files are on their own safe because they're just kind of envelopes to other files. Thus, potentially unsafe is viewing files in zip's and especially launching any .exe or .com files. So, if your clients are ones you can trust, well, open/unarchive the contents but make sure your antivirus program is on. By the way, if you use 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org) or the internal archiver of Total Commander, you don't have to rename the files: both those utilities don't care about extensions.
