wordfast professional spelling check settings

I have tried to follow the directions for setting the spell check while typing
however, when I misspell a word on purpose, the program does not do anything
if I run the spell check it finds the error and offers options

anyone else having this problem? if so, have you resolved it?
thanks!

ps
I do have another problem
in the PM perspective, I have no formats tab as shown in the help section
Is this normal?
