Hello!

Please help with adding terms to the glossary in Wordfast Pro, I could not find this information in the online manual.

When adding a term to the glossary only a term without*, without prepostion marks near it, without modifications is highlighted and becomes placeable, for some reason: How do I make all other variations placeables?

for example: if I add from the source text "pre-sales activities" only pre-sales activity or presale activity* or pre-sales activities has : at the end (pre-sales activities:), then the word is not highlighted as placeable

Thank you!

Nothing you can do May 30, 2009

There's nothing you can do. That's the way it works so far. They have not implemented the asterisk (*) feature as in Wordfast Classic. The outcome, as you have found out for yourself, is an inflexible —and utterly useless, I'd say— TDB. Because of this shortcoming, I have yet to compile a glossary in Wordfast Pro.

I mean, come on, even if you go to Help > Wordfast Updates, the program throws an error:

Network connection problems encountered during search.
Unable to access "http://www.wordfast.com/wfupdate".

There is no such address as www.wordfast.com/wfupdate, it seems…

oh well May 30, 2009

In mho the should not let the wordfast on the market so early unless it is fully developed and tested

Though I am also so grateful to them I can use it for free!

Exactly May 30, 2009

That's exactly what I think, and that's the reason why —although I formerly loved Wordfast— switched to another CAT application, which cost me nothing yet is way more complete, robust and rewarding to use than Wordfast.

It's a pity, really…

Oher CAT May 30, 2009

Epaimendas, yes that is right.

I still like Wordfast a lot, a classic version. It is just on this computer for some reason (windows problem) Wordfast keeps showing the glossary is locked or shared and I cannot use it.

What other CAT toll are you using? I am interested if I could use this one too?

Thanks for your answer!

Some bugs in Wordfast pro May 30, 2009

I have tested Wordfast pro, and so far discovered the following bugs:
1) It does not recognize common abbreviations such as in German z. B., usw., mrd., and other ans splits them,
2) Second it does not recognize
- repeated verbs, nouns if they have another ending (due to conjugation or declination)
examples
- drink, drinks, drinking, (same in German: drinke, drinkt, drinken)
- house, houses (singular, plural)
- Erdbeben, Erdbebens (genetive)
So you have to enter in the dictionary all variations of a noun, which appear in the text to be translated.

3) You cannot copy a word directly into translation, probably because of java

4) But what I missed most of all is the possibilty to have a search option for your wordfast dictionary, instead of that you have open the dictionary and scroll down or up to look it up.
A far better solution would be, if they could add a list of words and translation out of the imported dictionary that appear in the current text or sentence - for example on the left as a second window above the "Outline". Instead of that you are forced to stop typing and use the mouse to move it on the word that is highlighted to see the translated word, which slows down a lot the whole translation process.
After all it is beside these bugs a very translator friendly program, for which I hope that they will continue to develop.
