Changing where project is saved in Pro

I decided to give Wordfast Pro a try, but right away I am scratching my head. I created a new project, and it automatically saved on my C drive. Is this a default that I can change somewhere? I have a partitioned hard drive, so I don't want to be saving all of these files on the C drive. There must be a fix, I just can't find where to do it.

Move data folder and change .ini Aug 12, 2009

1. Make sure that Wordfast Pro is closed

2. Locate Wordfast Pro's ".wf_workspace" folder on your system

XP = C:\\Documents and Settings\\YourProfileName\\.wf_workspace
Vista = C:\\Users\\YourProfileName\\.wf_workspace

3. Copy the ".wf_workspace" folder and paste the copy where you want it (e.g., in the "Work" folder of partition F)

4. Copy the full address of the new location (e.g., F:\\Work\\.wf_workspace)

5. Go to C:\\Program Files\\Wordfast and open "Wordfast.ini"

6. Replace the line "@user.home\\.wf_workspace" with the address of the new location

7. Save and close "Wordfast.ini" and re-open Wordfast Pro

This should do it. Be aware that this will also become the default location of your glossaries.

Doesn't work for me Apr 14, 2011

I would like to use the same workspace settings for my pc (vista) and laptop (windows 7) using dropbox.

I defined my workspace in wordfast.ini on my vista machine as:
@user.home\\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
(was: @user.home\\.wf_workspace)

'Dropbox' is the 'drop-boxed' documents folder.
In dropbox (under prefs) I have defined the dropbox location as:
C:\Users|Lianne|Dropbox
(https://www.dropbox.com/help/89)

I have defined the path of 'my documents' as
C:\Users\Lianne\Dropbox
(in the properties of the documents folder)

All my documents are now backed up and accessible through dropbox.
In Vista the folder is called/renamed 'documents' even though it is the dropbox folder/location, depending on which view I use (I believe, I am not a UAC & tricks expert)

I have copied and pasted the .wf_workspace folder from
Lianne\.wf_workspace
into: Lianne\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
and removed the existing into a backup folder elsewhere.

Surprise surprise: when I start up Wordfast and create a new glossary, it just recreates a new .wf_workspace in
Lianne\.wf_workspace
and I am back to A.

Am I doing something wrong?

I've not tried to use Wordfast with Dropbox so I don't know if it can work, but I would suggest writing out the whole path for the folder.

So with your file structure in wordfast.ini use
C:\Users\Lianne\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
and not
@user.home\\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
