Changing where project is saved in Pro

I decided to give Wordfast Pro a try, but right away I am scratching my head. I created a new project, and it automatically saved on my C drive. Is this a default that I can change somewhere? I have a partitioned hard drive, so I don't want to be saving all of these files on the C drive. There must be a fix, I just can't find where to do it.

Thanks in advance!

Move data folder and change .ini Aug 12, 2009

1. Make sure that Wordfast Pro is closed

2. Locate Wordfast Pro's ".wf_workspace" folder on your system

XP = C:\\Documents and Settings\\YourProfileName\\.wf_workspace
Vista = C:\\Users\\YourProfileName\\.wf_workspace

3. Copy the ".wf_workspace" folder and paste the copy where you want it (e.g., in the "Work" folder of partition F)

4. Copy the full address of the new location (e.g., F:\\Work\\.wf_workspace)

5. Go to C:\\Program Files\\Wordfast and open "Wordfast.ini"

6. Replace the line "@user.home\\.wf_workspace" with the address of the new location

7. Save and close "Wordfast.ini" and re-open Wordfast Pro

This should do it. Be aware that this will also become the default location of your glossaries.

Doesn't work for me Apr 14, 2011

I would like to use the same workspace settings for my pc (vista) and laptop (windows 7) using dropbox.

I defined my workspace in wordfast.ini on my vista machine as:
@user.home\\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
(was: @user.home\\.wf_workspace)

'Dropbox' is the 'drop-boxed' documents folder.
In dropbox (under prefs) I have defined the dropbox location as:
C:\Users|Lianne|Dropbox
(https://www.dropbox.com/help/89)

I have defined the path of 'my documents' as
C:\Users\Lianne\Dropbox
(in the properties of the documents folder)
(http://lifehacker.com/#!5527055/the-cleverest-ways-to-use-dropbox-that-youre-not-using)

All my documents are now backed up and accessible through dropbox.
In Vista the folder is called/renamed 'documents' even though it is the dropbox folder/location, depending on which view I use (I believe, I am not a UAC & tricks expert)

I have copied and pasted the .wf_workspace folder from
Lianne\.wf_workspace
into: Lianne\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
and removed the existing into a backup folder elsewhere.

Surprise surprise: when I start up Wordfast and create a new glossary, it just recreates a new .wf_workspace in
Lianne\.wf_workspace
and I am back to A.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Simplify Jan 1, 2014

I wonder why wordfast does not simplify this by one-click process.

Maybe Jan 3, 2014

I've not tried to use Wordfast with Dropbox so I don't know if it can work, but I would suggest writing out the whole path for the folder.

So with your file structure in wordfast.ini use
C:\Users\Lianne\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
and not
@user.home\\Dropbox\.wf_workspace
