This is probably a basic question, but is it possible to translate xlm files with wordfast without damaging formats?

Thanks

Ligia

yes Nov 28, 2009

Yes, it is possible. However if you are using Wordfast Classic the file has to be prepared for translation first. This can be done using PlusTools. I'm not sure whether the file has to be prepared or not when using Wordfast Pro.

Check the walk-through Nov 28, 2009

Hi Ligia,

I have inserted a walk-through description on how to do it exactly - you should be able to find it somewhere in this forum.

I'll have a look, and if I manage to find it myself, I'll copy-paste it here.

.xml files with Wordfast Classic Nov 28, 2009

Here is the walk-through. You could probably use anything similar to Notepad++ to finally save as .xml.

1) Open Word and Wordfast Classic
2) Open PlusTools+ (tools / templates and add-ins)
3) Open your XML file from Word
4) Click on PlusTools+ and tick/select the file
5) Still in PlusTools+ click on +tweak and on: run on selected files
6) Close PlusTools+
7) Open the new processed Word file (it has the same name as the original)
8) Translate with Wordfast
9) Clean-up
10) Click on 'save as' and check 'tools' in upper right corner of the 'save as' screen, then web options... encoding... select what is appropriate for your language (for Danish I select "Western European"). Save your file.
11) Select and Copy the whole text
12) Open Notepad++
13) Paste the text in Notepad++
14) Click Format and select encoding UTF-8
15) Click on File/Save as... and save as XML (second-last one on the list)
16) Check that you can open your new XML file in a browser

Good luck!
Dinny
