Dear colleagues

A client has asked me to install MemoQ so he can send me his TMs and glossaries.
Can I continue using Wordfast Pro? I just think two softwares is a bit much for me.

Thank you in advance,

Paula

Dear Paula,

Please ask your client to export the TM as TMX and the glossaries (term bases) as CSV. Both features are possible in MemoQ.

Once you receive the TMX TM from the client, you can open it in Wordfast Pro > Translation Memory menu > New/Select TM > Open > select the language locales exactly > Browse for locating the TMX > Translation Memory eXchange (select from the drop-down menu). Wordfast will import it and convert it into Wordfast native format txt.

Once you receive the CSV term base (glossary) from the client, open it in MS Excel and "Save as" Text Tab-Delimited to be able to import it to Wordfast Pro.

To import the tab-delimited glossary text file to Wordfast Pro:

- Terminology (menu) > New/Select Glossary
- Click on "Import" button
- From "File Type", keep it "Tab Delimited"
- Click on "Browse" to select the .txt glossary you want to import; Open.
- If this is the first time you use this glossary, keep the option "Create new glossary" selected. If you want to update a glossary you already selected in WFP, check "Import into existing glossary", select the existing glossary into which you want import the terms of the other glossary, and the way you want WFP to deal with source terms already existed.
- A message will appear telling you about the number of terms that will be imported. An "imported successfully" message should appear.
- Now, you can use the imported glossary, as usual.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

MemoQ does not mess around with your computer Apr 20, 2010

I don't know about Wordfast, but I have MemoQ with Trados in the same computer and MemoQ did not mess with my computer at all. Although I cannot tell, I am pretty sure that you can safely install MemoQ in the same machine as Wordfast.

Several CATs Apr 20, 2010

Good afternoon,

I have several CATs on my computer "just in case", but I mostly work with Wf Classic and Pro. Wf can stand all other CAT tools apart from MetaTexis - even if you hide the toolbar and make it not active, at your next move in MS Word MetaTexis will automatically appear again.

Well, it is good to be prepared to some of our clients' wishes, but I believe that it is better to specialise quite well in a tool, to focus on it and not to install other tool that would be as functional and efficient as the previous one.

I've only kept those tool that had convinced me and that are complementary (e.g. take care of different file formats).

Anyway, Paula, the choice is up to you! Good luck!

Regards to All,
Marcelina.

Thank you Marcelina Apr 20, 2010

I do not intend to stop using Wordfast Pro, I just need to be able to open the client's TM from MemoQ on Wordfast.
