I recently lost my hard drive (in a Dell laptop bought new last November, but that's an other story). Using Word 7, I reinstalled everything, including WF and WF Classic. Everything seemed allright. I prefer Classic over the new-fangled version and I have a client who has been sending me Word files and TMX-generated TRADOS memories.

Until now I just clicked on that TMX file while using WF Classic and everything was converted to a TXT file automatically. But that has stopped, even although that conversion worked for a bit with the new hard disk and TMX files.

Any suggestions?

I understand that you speak about Word 2007. WF Classic works with Word 2007 when you correctly add the *.dot template of WF Classic into Word option command. Here TMX is converted to WF *.txt TM.

If you want Trados *.txt TM, import TMX to Trados Workbench and export as *.txt format. It is different in tags from WF Classic TM, however.

Best regards,

Which version TMX? Aug 10, 2010

Ask your client to send you a TMX 1.1, not TMX 1.4. The problem is probably about tags that Trados leaves in TMX when exporting to 1.4.

Thanks Aug 10, 2010

Thanks for the helps and hints. Strangely enough, when I import the TMX files, it creates a txt/usable file. Which first shows empty and then suddenly has lots of TUs.

Ah well, it's a computer after all. Our is not to wonder why, ours is just to adapt.
