I've looked around the forums here and was surprised that no one else seems to have this problem.

I have Microsoft Word docs (2003) being sent to me by a client who has partially translated them using WordFast inside of MS Word.

I recently upgraded to WordFast Pro but when I attempt to load them into WordFast Pro, all the segments in the original language disappear and the translated segments are placed in the original language column.

Is there a special way of importing partially translated .doc files into WordFast Pro?

Thanks

Source Document + TM Sep 21, 2010

Hi Roland,

Ask your client for the source document and the TM.
Open the source document in WFP, select the TM, and click on "Translate All".

Best,

Dear Roland,

This seems to be translated in Wordfast Classic, and most likely, your client will ask you for a segmented unclean file after finishing the translation.

WordFast Pro is NOT an upgrade; it is another product. Your license allows you to license and use both Wordfast Classic and Wordfast Pro.

You download and install the latest version of Wordfast Classic available at:

If you have more questions about Wordfast Classic, you can open a support ticket. To open a new hotline ticket, log-in (wordfast.net > support > login) with your login email and password mentioned on your invoice. Click on 'Contact the Hotline' and click on 'Hotline/support for Wordfast Classic'. Submit your ticket.

Thanks for the replies Sep 22, 2010

@Christa: Thanks for the suggestion. That's probably the easiest thing to do.

@Yasmin: Thanks for the reply. When I said I had upgraded to WordFast Pro I was implying that I had "moved up" to WordFast Pro, similar to saying that I've upgraded my MacBook to a MacBook Pro. I do realize they are separate products.

I know that I can continue the translation of that document inside of Microsoft Word but the WordFast Pro environment is a whole lot more functional and streamlined.

I am surprised though that a Word document that has been partially translated by WordFast Classic cannot be properly imported by WordFast Pro. After all WordFast Pro can read Word docs and should know what parts of that doc have been put there by WordFast Classic.

I suppose that will just have to be a feature request for the next version of WordFast Pro.
