WF pro 2.4: tab handling?

Hello,

I'm translating a .ttx file in WF Pro. No big problems, but there is one issue that really bothers me. In one repetitive TU (name of the file, in the footer) there is a tab that is not stored in memory, which I always have to insert into target by hand. The source being a few hundred pages, this is rather annoying and a considerable loss of time since I have to edit what should by all rights be a perfect match.
-EDIT- OK, only 1 120 pages, but still!

The source segment goes:

"{ut1}{ut2}file name{ut3}{ut4}[TAB]{ut5}{ut6}Page :"

Obviously always identical, being the footer, with the same ut's, same words, and the same tab. WF however always returns the same proposition, a 95% match, with all the words and ut's
ok, but a space instead of a tab.
In the "TM lookup" pane, there is only one TM match in memory, which is identical to the actual source, except in not having a tab:

("{ut1}{ut2}file name{ut3}{ut4}[SPACE]{ut5}{ut6}Page :")

How come WF does not keep this tab character in memory? And how do I make it keep tabs?

Thanks for any help...

-EDIT- The same thing happens with titles of chapters. WF just doesn't seem to remember tabs...

Auto-Propagation Dec 10, 2010

You can enable "Global Auto-Propagation". In general, Auto-propagation means that if you have some "repetitions" (=segments with the same source text), and you leverage a segment (Alt+Space), translate and commit it to the TM (Alt+Down), or even change it without committing to the TM (move with the mouse), the rest of the repeated segments will be automatically filled with the same translation.

There are three options under (Edit > Preferences > Auto-Propagation):

~ Disable Auto-Propagation: If you have some repetitions, leveraging or changing one of them will affect the current segment only and will have no effect on other repeated segments.

~ Global Auto-Propagation: If you have some repetitions, leveraging or changing one of them will change all the repeated segments – no exceptions.

~ Partial Auto-Propagation: If you have some repetitions, leveraging or changing one of them will change ONLY the repeated segments which are untouched, source copied or already auto-propagated. Other repeated segments, those that you have translated in a different way for some reason, will not be changed.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

problem remains... Dec 10, 2010

Thanks Yasmin for your reply.

Unfortunately, the Propagation function, which is a rather nice feature, didn't seem to help. I still have the same tab issue.
The problem is that WF does not recognise the source segment as being identical (even though it is). It would seem that when I commit the translation unit to TM, the tab is "lost" and converted to a space.
Clearly WF recognises the tab when opening the TU, so why should it not get committed to TM?

use the mouse Dec 10, 2010

For segments in which you want to use the Auto-propagation, you can use the mouse rather than the shortcut; this way you should get the tab.

Actually, WFP understands the "tab" in the TM in the form or a placeable. But using Auto-propagation with the mouse is a workaround that should work well as long as they are actually repetitions.

HTH,
Yasmin
