Segments have borders and no colours!

I'm inserting source text as I go, after OCRing scanned pages.

Now I appear to have lost the source and target background colours and both have a black line border.

I've searched the previous posts and although there was a similar query 3 years ago, the suggested changes to Word settings don't correspond to the Word 2007 that I am using.

Any advice much appreciated.

Itis a shading issue Jan 6, 2011

That behavior happens with OCRed docs, because the OCR application sets the background to white, rather than "clear".

The solution is to Select All, then go into Borders and Shading | Shading and select Clear.

No Borders and Shading Jan 6, 2011

Thanks for replying JL01
However, I have already tried that, based on a previous post.
In Word 2007, there is no Borders and Shading; under the Shading drop down menu on the Home tab, I have Theme colors, Standard colors, No color and More colors. No color has no effect.

Page layout tab Jan 6, 2011

What about the 'Page layout' tab?
Can you access 'Page colour' and 'Page borders' from there?

Oh yes; there's a shading tab confusingly hidden under Page borders, thank you!
Unfortunately, I can't now test it as the colours have miraculously returned.

I've found that it happens with scanned documents. The colors are off when I'm actually IN the segment, but then when I go on to the next one my default colors appear in the previous one.
Probably a problem connected with the OCR program. I just ignore it

Border / shading Jan 6, 2011

This happens with some (not all) scanned documents and some (not all) PDFs converted into Word. The simplest solution is to select All document and go to Format > Borders and shading > Shading and change the shading in the Shading tab to None. You may need to do it twice, separately for text and paragraph.
Making a small macro is easy and will save you a lot of time.
This way is not good for tables, text fields, headers, etc. though.
Best regards,
Mark

Add Shading button to the Quick Access Toolbar Jan 6, 2011

The simple solution I have done is to add the Shading button to the Quick Access Toolbar through the Customize dialog. Then you just select all (Ctrl+A) and click the button.
